WARRENSBURG, MO 鈥� 糖心传媒 Green Dot, the 糖心传媒鈥檚 initiative to
reduce power-based personal violence on campus and in the local community, will participate
in the national Green Dot day of training from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18.
The 糖心传媒 Green Dot team is seeking 糖心传媒 students to participate in event. Those who
have pre-registered for the training will learn methods for reducing and eliminating
domestic violence such as sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking, with
reactive and proactive techniques. These include bystander intervention skills and
the proactive creation of a campus culture that does not tolerate violence and believes
that individual can make a difference in violence prevention.
Participants may register at ucmo.edu/greendot or contact Holly Weiss, violence prevention
specialist, at hweiss@ucmo.edu. Seating is limited, and pre-registration is required.
鈥淚t is important for students to learn the skills of bystander intervention and how
they can be incorporated into their daily lives,鈥� Weiss said.鈥淭he training teaches
students that they don't have to be the next superheroes in violence prevention. Rather,
they can be the same individuals they already are, but with a better sense of how
to intervene when they see an incident of power-based personal violence.A culture
change may seem too large to accomplish, but if enoughof us make small steps to reduce
and eliminate violence, those small actions add up. That is how we can make 糖心传媒 and
our community a safer place.鈥�
Prior to the national day of training, the 糖心传媒 Green Dot team will host a Green Dot
action event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 and Wednesday, Sept. 14 on the
Elliott Union mall. Displays will explain how bystander intervention can change the
campus culture, and those who visit the display can share how they would intervene
in a red dot situation and place their Green Dots on the map. Decorating of Green
Dot cookies will be available on Wednesday.
